Biographical Sketch
Lawyer and antiwar activist Kevin Zeese is taking on the two war parties when he sought an open US Senate seat from Maryland in 2006. Kevin B. Zeese, who ran independent of the two major parties, has been involved in a host of social justice issues over the past thirty years and is currently serving as the director for the antiwar organization Democracy Rising, which is calling for a responsible, rapid withdrawal of troops from Iraq. kevin B. Zeese aought in 2006 the nomination of Maryland’s antiwar Libertarian, Populist and Green Parties as well as support from Maryland's fastest growing group of voters -- disgruntled Republicans and Democrats. Kevin B. Zeese registered with the Maryland Green Party. He is a founding member of the Populist Party of Maryland as well as a member of Libertarian Party of Maryland. He believes that the United States needs to be a government "of, by and for the people" but that the two major political parties have become corrupted by Big Business and wealthy donor contributions and no longer put the needs of the people first. Kevin is currently the director of the national anti-war group DemocracyRising.US, an organization working to rapidly and responsibly end the Iraq War and occupation. Kevin has consistently linked our fossil-fuel economy, the war on terror, and global climate change together in the development of his stances on economic issues, issues of globalization, and security. He was a founding member of the Montgomery County Coalition for Alternatives to War in Maryland, and a co-founder of VotersForPeace.US an organization working to build a bloc of voters who will not support pro-war candidates |
Health | By: A. Diba, PhD It is summer. And sun is more with us and for us. The sun was the principal of good, master of sky and earth, sustaining all life and controlling universe.(Book: Light, Color, And Environment, p.103, 1982 by Farber Birren). But our genetically inherited temperature regulation has its own limit. This is the same limit, which our grandparents have given to us as their offsprings in the twenty and twenty-first centuries. We are very easy vulnerable living beings. If the temperature goes up and consequently, the environmental air approches to our own body temperature, then we have very big problem. Our temperature regulation is not prepared to manage very high temperatures. We can easily expect that the sustained increases in summer temperature and humidity (heat waves) can be associated with extensive morbidity and mortality. We see in a hot day of summer that sweat rolls off the body if the humidity is at all high. As an expert in the biomedical science, I would say that in that condition, the pulse of a person, whose sweat rolls off, is fast, and his or her breathing is shallow. Do you know that the onset of sweating is slower in the old people? Has somebody told you about it? From the medical point of view, I want to inform you that in the elderly people, especially in those people who have cardiovasuclary and pulmonary diseases, both body temperature and pulse rate can rise more quickly like the speed of "Shinkasen Train" from Tokyo to Kyoto in Japan? Of course, I compared the velocity of the body temperature and pulse rate of the elderly people and younger persons. If we wish or not wish, the reality is that when we are exposed to heat in the hot days of summer, biologically, our muscular heart tries to respond to this heat by an increasing in heart rate. This is because of pumping extra blood to the surface for cooling's purpose. If our abilities to deal with the heat of summer has been declined, it reflects that how deeply our cardiovascular system has been deteriorated. The elderly people, often, have this functional problem during the hot days of summer. Many evidences suggest that the percentage of deaths in summer belongs to those individuals with arteriosclerosis, and other cardiovascular dysfunctionalities.Renal and splanchnic sympathetic nerve discharge (SND) responses to heating are significantly reduced in senescent compared with young(Michael J. Kenney and Timothy I. Musch, 2003).Age alters the cardiovascular response to direct passive heating(Christopher T. Minson et al., J Appl Physiol 84: 1323-1332, 1998). The skin blood flow (SKBF) is altered in aged skin. There are reports about the large increases in numbers of deaths from stroke and ischemic heart disease as well as deaths from more obviously heat-related illness (e.g., heatstroke) in association with heat waves (Ellis FP. Heat illness. Trans Roy Soc Trop Med Hyg 1977;70:402-28). Groups at high risk of having heatstroke are the elderly, infants 1 year of age, military recruits, persons exposed to high temperatures in the work place, the chronically ill or bedfast, the mentally ill, those taking antipsychotic or anticholinergic drugs, and alcoholics: Jones TS, Liang AP, Kilbourne EM, et al. Morbidity and mortality associated with the July 1980 heat wave in St. Louis and Kansas City, Mo. JAMA 1982;247:3327-31; Kilbourne EM, Choi K, Jones TS, Thacker SB, and The Field Investigation Team. Risk factors for heatstroke: a case-control study. JAMA 1982;247:3332-36; Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Hot environments. Cincinnati: National Institute for Ocupational Safety and Health. (NIOSH publication no. 80-132). 1980 ; Ferris EB, Blankenhorn MA, Robinson HW, Cullen GE. Heat stroke: clinical and chemical observations on 44 cases. J Clin Investigation 1938;17:249-62;Zelman S, Guillan R. Heat stroke in phenothiazine-treated patients: a report of three fatalities. Amer J Psychiat 1970;126:1787-90;Wise TN. Heatstroke in three chronic schizophrenics: case reports and clinical considerations. Compr Psychiatry 1973;14:263-7. Low socioeconomic status and residence in an urban area have also been associated with high risk of heatstroke. Studies of race and sex as predisposing factors for heatstroke have yielded inconsistent results (Henschel A, Burton LL, Margolies L, Smith JE. An analysis of the heat deaths in St. Louis during July, 1966. Amer J Public Health 1969;59:2232-42; Schuman SH. Patterns of urban heat-wave deaths and implications for prevention: data from New York and St. Louis during July, 1966. Environ Res 1972;5:59-75;Ferris EB, Blankenhorn MA, Robinson HW, Cullen GE. Heat stroke: clinical and chemical observations on 44 cases. J Clin Investigation 1938;17:249-62). NIEP strongly emphasizes that the right to food means the right to peace. This has been emphasized from the United Nations for many years. NIEP advocates for proper foods for all humans. To give the proper food to all humans means to reduce the chance of heat injury in the summer. NIEP is for the peace. NIEP is for humanity. NIEP is for a sustainable and peaceful environment. Health | By: A. Diba, PhD Human health is a human right's issue.Every woman, man, youth and child has the human right to the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, without discrimination of any kind. Enjoyment of the human right to health is vital to all aspects of a person's life and well-being, and is crucial to the realization of many other fundamental human rights and freedoms. (The Human Right to Health Human rights and the NHS In the era of global warming, NIEP advocates for Heat Health Watch-Warning System (HHWWS). We are about two-thirds water (approximately 56 percent) and without it, we die within a few days. The water is enclosed in the trillions of cells that form our bodies. Our brains, which are the sole determinanat of identities, incidentlly, among the more mushy of our organs, composed of 85 percent water; most of the rest os fat. The body of every living being depends on the laws of the environment. Healthy humans cannot maintain their body temperature if the environmental air reaches body temperature and the air is saturated with water vapour. Humans and the suurounding environments are the subjects of changes. Living beings like humans are systems that tend to respond to chnages in their environments. This noble institution knows very well the danagers and the consequences of these chnages in the environment. NIEP distributes informations about the public health threat from excessive heat. The biomedical experts of NIEP inform to all people with heart problems that they are, especially, vulnerable to the excessive heat. This is because of their cardiovascular system. These muscular pumps, during hot weather must work harder to keep the body of the vulnerable people cool. As a memebr of NIEP, I emphasize that extreme temperatures can directly cause the loss of life for many people, especially for the elderly people, kids and patinets. In July 1995, a heat wave killed more than 700 people in the Chicago area alone. Of course, our fellow-creatures, animals and plants have the same threat. NIEP teaches to people that there is a close link between regional climate in all parts of the world and the occurrence or severity of some diseases and other threats to human health. The researches show that warm temperatures can increase air and water pollution. We see these conditions in many big cities of Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, North & South America. These conditions, in turn harm human health. NIEP is a world center for the environmental peace. Therefore, we monitor all countries around the world. There are many countries, where people expierence with the highest incidence of heat-related mortality. The increasing of mortalities because of the global warming is a fact today. Earth is the hottest it has been in at least 400 years. Because of the integrity of all living beings to the universe- or the multiple-universe- human health is affected by climate conditions. Extremely hot weather can result in illness – including physiological disruptions and organ damage – and even death. About the mortalities because of air pollution, NIEP asks people, whether or not they know that estimatly, air pollution causes several hundred thousand deaths a year around the world.Do they know? If we believe this Earth belongs to all living beings, do we support policies and measures to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases? Do we support the strategies of NIEP and many environmental organizations and agencies such as those encompassing enhanced energy efficicency and movement to non-carbon fuels? Are we aware of sizable air quality benefirs, particularly reduced deaths from exposue to inhalable particles? All people need to know and must know that there are true but mult-faceted interrelationships involving air pollution, stratospheric ozone depleation and climate change. The expansion of giant corporations and the transfer of many of their industries to other parts of the world such as China, Banghladesh, India and etc -because of cheap labours and esay exploitation of humans-- have been a driving factor in contributing to environmental problmes. People have lost their rights to health because of the destructive biopolitics of the giant corporations. Protecting human health is an integral part of NIEP's mission. Public health problems caused by many destructive biopolitics are a growing concern worldwide today. NIEP sees these public health threats, which are enhanced by these destructive biopolitics are affected by the relationship between people and the physical, chemical, and biological nature of our natural environments. NIEP sees that everyone can be exposed to trace amounts of pollutants through air, soil, household dust, food, drinking water and various consumer products. We encourage for proper environmental management. Do we know that the environment influences our health in many ways? Really do we know? Then help us for making the environmental peace. You can make a difference. NIEP is for you. |

Hunger crisis due to climate change stalks India: UN
16 August 2007
The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has warned of the likelihood of climate change leading to a hunger crisis in India.
FAO says floods and droughts caused by climate changes would affect food grain production by almost 125 million tonnes or 18 per cent of the current food grain produced in the country.
Jacques Diouf, director general, FAO, was quoted in an official statement as saying that greater frequency of droughts and floods would have a negative impact on local production, especially in subsistence sectors at low latitudes. "Rain-fed agriculture in marginal areas in semi-arid and sub-humid regions is mostly at risk," he warned.

Greenpeace makes hot point on climate
Greenpeace fired up a new campaign calling for action to combat climate change with a solar-powered sausage sizzle outside Parliament yesterday.
Under a banner which read "All Sizzle No Sausage" alongside images of Helen Clark and John Key, a small barbecue was hooked up to a pair of solar panels to demonstrate the benefit of renewable resources.

Sag ich 's euch, geliebte Bäume?
Die ich ahndevoll gepflanzt,
Als die wunderbarsten Träume
Morgenrötlich mich umtanzt.
Ach, ihr wißt es, wie ich liebe,
Die so schön mich wiederliebt,
Die den reinsten meiner Triebe
Mir noch reiner wiedergibt.
Wachset wie aus meinem Herzen,
Treibet in die Luft hinein,
Denn ich grub viel Freud und Schmerzen
Unter eure Wurzeln ein.
Bringet Schatten, traget Früchte,
Neue Freude jeden Tag;
Nur daß ich sie dichte, dichte,
Dicht bei ihr genießen mag.

I strongly resent the political games of the politicians who weep crocodile tears for the environmental crisis and the danagers to the life of the arctic animals, but insist on the continuation of the xenophibia. This is the oxymoronical politics. What distinguishes oxymora of these hegemonial race-based politicians from other people, who have paradoxes and contradiction in their behaviors against other people is that these so-called the concerned environmentalists, businessmen, and politicians are using the hegemony of the European races to other races intentionally. This intention contradicts their willigness to the environmental peace through justice. The oxymoronical behavior in the environmental peace is identified as a phrase, in which two words of contradictory meaning are brought together. The behaviors of these so-called the concerned environmentalists, businessmen and politicians become an example of an "oxymoron". The more these people grasp to their xenophbic ideologies, the more their behaviors tend to sophomore, a "wise fool" form.
"The Environmental Peace" and "Racism" are terms that are almost oxymoronical in nature! NIEP advocates to the environmental peace through justice. NIEP strongly condemns the xenophobic behaviors. We,all, are humans. We want peace through justice. These two vital elements are the buildiing blocks of our environment.
Thr exponentially oxymoronical environmental politics with the strong emphasis on the xeniophobia find no place in the policies of NIEP. There are many sorts of oxymoronical conflicts going on in many places. NIEP sees these conflicts as the great obstacles for the environmental peace. The exorbitant oxymoronical materials in the arsenals of the supporters of the anti-peace and anti-justice movements reflect how important is the works of NIEP for making the environmental peace through justice. A compilation of self-contradictory politics of oxymoronica in the arsenals of the democratic governments appear illogical or nonsensical for making the environmental peace. Ancient or new Oxymoronical politics, which are based on injustice and xenophobic are barriers for making peace through justice.I presume to suggest that NIEP needs clear-cut policies for the environmental peace.
Although the political paradox or games for making the environmental peace are particularly the powerful devices in today's world, but the efforts of the true environmentalists and peacelovers around the world can illuminate the contradictions that are at the very heart of our works for making a peaceful environment.
NIEP sees that the honesty and sincerity of all peacelovers and environmentalists
engage our hearts and minds. We know that the existence of oxymoronica in the environmental policies through justice and peace are the big obstacles, but according to paraphrase Yogi Berra, if people don't want to appreciate oxymoronica, nobody's going to stop them. We need to find the appropriate ways for confronting and management with the oxymoronical politics.Groucho Marx: "The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing. NIEP is ready to deal with the oxymoronical politics because of its honesty and fair dealing for the environmental peace.

Project Director For Environment & Health
The NIEP is open to all partners, agencies, universities and institutions willing to commit to the objectives, targets, and guiding principles of the partnership for promoting the environmental peace. NIEP considers that the NIEP's mission and objectives are relevant for making the environmental peace: the task in achieving the peace and a sustainable and healthy environment are immense while the need to develop the national environmental peace's plans with the strong emphasis on the establishing the Ministry of Peace in every country and addressing the importance of justice in all policy issues are always emphasized.Importantly, the strategy of NIEP is not going to be silent on many key issues that relate to the effective implementation of its agendas including, for example, support of the healthy biopolitics for a healthy life. NIEP considers that it should have highlighted the importance of elaborating in further detail how the environmental peace strategy should be implemented. NIEP considers that the lack of willingness for making a healthy environment and peace has been a missed opportunity unil now that has contributed directly to several constraints that are visible in many socities and global warming. The Africa, Asia and South America components of the environmental peace can enjoy strong support from every corner of the world while the European & North America components receive strong condemnation for their failures for making a healthy environment and commitment in peace. The issues facing the environmental peace are many and interlinked with the desire to achieving peace & justice and will need to be addressed comprehensively rather than individually if a robust and enduring environmental and political ways are to be implemented. Africa-EU Strategic Partnership, Latin American–EU Strategic Partnership, Middle-East Strategic Partnership and Asia Strategic Partnership are very fundamnetal for making the environmental peace. The Europe & North America need to come out of their egocentric policies. If they want a healthy environment and a peaceful world, they must show a genuine partnership with the rest of the world. The reinforcement of political commitment of the western countries towards the true democracy in the world through the true action and innovation oriented partnership is what NIEP as a non-governmental organization is emphasizing today. The NIEP is not a financial instrument to deliver official development assistance (ODA) in either the environment or in the political arena for making peace. Instead, NIEP seeks to assist partner organizations, agencies, universities, institution and many countries around the world in the development and implementation of peace projects in the environment and their efforts for stopping war and violence.NIEP strongly recommends the increase of synergies between the environmental peace polies, as a continuing process, and major on-going policies for all countries.
The NIEP Thematic Strategy (NTS) on the Protection and Conservation of the Peaceful Environments aims to ensure that all kinds of environments such as the family environment, political environment, the elderly people environment, social environment, immigration environment, refugees environment, the kids environment, economical environment, business environment and etc. are environmentally healthy and for peace. The implementation of this Strategy will require enhanced cooperation and collective action of all organizations, agencies, universities, institutions and governments in all countries. NIEP would like to promote for the integration of the environmental dimension of its initiatives in the environmental peace in sectoral policies. NIEP claims that this integration can benefit the econmoic and social pillar of a suustainable development in many countries around the world. This mechanism can work through the increase of investments and the creation of additional job positions- most importantly not for the millitary purposes and wars, but also for peace and health- in many environmentally healthy sectors.
Therefore, NIEP is obliged to explain that any information processing and dissemination for the elaboration of the environmental dimenision and its integration in the sectoral policies to people are very productive and beneficial. These ways are based on the balanced interlinks of the main parameters, including the social justice for developing of the environmental peace projects that ensures the goals of NIEP for making the environmental peace through justice.

NIEP is not the goddess Athene, in Greek mytology, who gave the olive tree to the people of Athens, who showed their gratitude by naming the city after her.

NIEP has an objective goal and that is practicing & sharing of responsibility among people for peacem in terris. NIEP belives that if people in today's world win the sharing of responsbility for having an environmental peace, then they are real winners and of course the winners can be given crowns of olive branches. NIEP belives that sharing of this responsibility for environmental peace reflects the blossoming of talents in all people, who value the issues of the environment and the peace. The activists for the environmental peace in NIEP think, whatever the culture, gender, race or history, the olive branch and dove are the parts of many modern signs symbolising peace and unity around the globe.
The concept of peace and environmental peace are very important because these are the real concerns for all cultures all over the world. The environmental peace, in the reality, is in us because wehn we greet people, we intend to create a peaceful environment. The phrase "to offer someone an olive branch" means to make peace with using of the symbol of nature. The olive tree is a tree in the nature and it has been served as a symbol of beauty, freshness and fertility. It lives longer than the other trees in the area. The nature is a landscape of colours. It is very beautiful. As we have studied, we have learned that in the Chinese tradition, the rainbow, which is the symbol of different colours, is a common symbol for reaching of partners to each other because the colours represent the union of yin and yang. NIEP, as a center for the environmental peace and alsp many environmental and peace organizations know that having a multi-colour symbols like a rainbow means in the today's politics the possibility of a peaceful planet and promising sunshine after the rain. Again and again, we wish a peaceful world with peaceful people for a peaceful politics with the olive branch, which was the first sign of life that the dove brought back to Noah’s Arc to hale the end of the flood as the biblical story goes. NIEP with using of this symbol of peace, namely the olive tree advocates for more engagements for the environmental peace.
As a responsible person, who engages for the purposes of the environment and peace in NIEP and International Innovative Projects (IIP), I would like to emphasize this important point that as the olive tree has been the symbol of wisdom and peace, please let to come together for the environmental peace and please let to have a unity; the unity for all people, evry race, every gender around the world. Although the symbol of the tree and its metaphysical concept go back to ancient times, but the alliance of people for today's environmental peace is urgent and is for our lives. Every person ought to be interconnected to the efforts for the environmental peace. NIEP for the environmental peace deeply appreciates every small steps by every individual. The directors of NIEP, professor Roger Hansell and professor Biswajit (Bob) Ganguly believe that peace begins with small steps taken by many individuals that leads to respect, understanding and appreciation of others. They see the efforts of every individual as the seeds of peace today and they wish to let these engagements for peace to be contegious. Personally, I must confess that I love the symbol of the olive Tree and its meaning for peace. I love this symbol because the olive Tree is a symbol of our environment for achieving peace. I love to see your warm humankind. The volunteers for the environmental peace with olive Trees in hands are very responsible persons. We, in NEEP, are advocating for projects titled “ Tree of Peace Program” around the world. With these projects, we use the name of the olive tree in every peace project. We expect all environmental and governmental organizations help us in these goals. We look forward to your support in helping NIEP in its efforts in the environmental peace.

Rosalie Bertell
Dr. Rosalie Bertell - Environmentalist
Dr. Rosalie Bertell is an advocate for health, for the earth and those who live on it. She would argue that they are indivisible, that you can't have one without the other. She is many other things too - nun, scientist, teacher, educator, writer, feminist, peace activist, political activist. She would probably say that these are also indivisible, that they have combined to give her a perspective and a passion. From these threads come a life that is a whole cloth, a mantle we can wear too. Bertell is crystal clear about what is wrong:
... there's no social justice issue which does not result in a violation of human health ... Right through our society whether you talk about rape, you talk about abuse, you talk about despotic rulers, or you talk about the nuclear club, its the same thing: if I'm bigger or I've got more power, therefore I am in charge, and it just destroys everybody else
Dr. Bertell was born in Buffalo, NY, in 1929. She says that she is a fourth generation Canadian-American - her mother was Canadian, her father American. She earned her first degree, Bachelor of Arts in 1951 at Buffalo's Marguerite d'Youville College. Marguerite d'Youville was the first Canadian-born Foundress of a religious community (1738) to be declared a saint. There was one other Canadian (pre-Canadian) saint, Keteri Tekawika, the Mohawk girl. Bertell first joined a Carmelite monastery. She undertook hard physical work there, suffering a heart attack. During her recovery, she discovered that she enjoyed teaching mathematics. So she made some changes. She spent from 1951 to 1955 in Carmel; 1955-1957 teaching high school, and from 1957-1958 getting an M.A. degree at Catholic University in mathematics) In fall of 1958, at the age of 29, she joined the order d'Youville founded, the Sisters of Charity (known as the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart). Says Bertell of d'Youville, "... [She] always did what needed to be done in a pioneer village. She used common sense. So I've got a good history in my congregation for this kind of thing."
